General Questions:

  • The Zone is fully compliant with all applicable regulations. As currently structured, The Zone is not subject to HIPAA because it is not a covered health care provider or business associate. However, The Zone applies HIPAA-level security controls to protect student data. The Zone is compliant with FERPA and does not share personally identifiable student data with any party other than the school in the limited escalation circumstances described. 

  • Yes! The Zone has completed a HECVAT self-assessment for the Software. This assessment details our compliance with industry standards and the security protocols built into our infrastructure.

  • We implement the required requirements of administrative policy, physical security (including all data encrypted, even at rest) and technical tools that allow for the encrypted transmission, authentication, transfer of custody, expiration and retraction so protected information. 

  • No, staff see aggregated and anonymous data of their program and teams, and will not see the individual wellness data of a specific athlete. Should an athlete choose to discuss with a staff member, they easily have the ability to access their staff through The Zone's tele-help capability. 

  • If an athlete enters in the app that you are feeling "not great" 10 times (10x) in a two-week period, then under The Zone's Terms of Use you automatically consent that The Zone can disclose the athlete's identity and contact information to your point of contact, with the information that they indicated they are feeling "not great" 10 times within two weeks, so you can contact them directly. The Zone is only a conduit for helping you collect and receive information, and is not a mental health provider. We provide this information to you to help you engage directly with your athletes based on their mental well being needs. 

  • Yes, staff can add their own organization's materials, information, and wellness resources right into the staff admin dashboard. 

  • Yes. Organizations have an ability to add mental health clinicians and mental performance coaches to their package if they desire. We sell this separately as an add on. 

  • Over a 2 week period post final agreement the Zone will go through a process of implementation: 

    • Discovery - Data collection

    • Strategy creation and alignment of goals 

    • Implementation (Load training) 

    • Communication (Timelines) 

    • Insights (Zone Strategy)

  • Our product roadmap consists of creating tools to amplify the wellness staff in providing scalable care and efficient care to the organizations. If you want in depth we can have a discussion about the future of the Zone. 

  • We work with our partners to help them find the best person from their program to manage the dashboard. We know each organization operates differently, and assigning the most appropriate point of contact is of high importance. Our goal is to help you get the best value out of the Zone, which is driven through data and insights. Historically, some notable titles have included (Head of Student-Athlete Well-Being, Head of Wellness, VP of Student Affairs, & Sports Psychologist.)

  • We are backed by well-funded prominent investors including A16z, TXO, 3LS Behavioral Health Fund, and Golden Section

  • Yes, we collaborate with four medical advisors who ensure compliance with mental health regulations and contribute to our evidence-based platform. Our advisors include the Head of Trauma and Global Mental Health at The New School, a sports psychiatrist from Stanford, and a clinical psychologist specializing in mental health. They help us interpret data to benefit our partners and keep us informed of new policies. 

  • Our focus is on preventative mental wellness support. Currently, our app does not include a feature for reporting suicidal ideation. However, we provide clear guidance on how athletes can connect to emergency care plans in real time if needed. We do not collect medical diagnosis information, as our primary focus is on mental wellness to prevent issues from escalating. We consider ourselves the health support before the need for intensive care.
